Cultural Family Expedition by Sea

A Cultural-Historical Expedition for the Whole Family

Set out on a unique cultural-historical expedition by RIB boat, sailing the waters between three legendary boat guilds: the Hjortspring Boat, the Nydam Boat, and the Viking ship Sebbe Als. On board, you'll meet a captivating historian and storyteller who brings ancient myths and legends to life as you glide through the historic landscape from the sea.

At each ancient boat site, skilled guides invite you into the stories of warships — once sacrificed to the gods and now rebuilt with passion and craftsmanship. Children become part of the adventure as they encounter mythical beings, warriors, and goddesses from the old Norse sagas.

Ready to join an expedition for the whole family? Meet the saga’s völva and the Norn spinning the threads of life, explore Iron Age tools and crafts, and train in the Viking shield wall with strong warrior-guides!

Together, We Create the Cultural Expedition

Behind the Cultural Expedition are three dedicated expedition leaders: cultural communicator and concept developer Mia Lilliendahl Larsen, cultural historian and storyteller Casper Clemmensen, and sailing coordinator Martin Panum from Mai-Event. Together, they bring 1,000 years of maritime history to life in close collaboration with the three iconic ancient boat guilds: the Hjortspring Boat, the Nydam Boat, and the Viking ship Sebbe Als.

The cultural Expedition is made possible by strong local contributors and visionary supporters:
Sønderborg Vækstråd, Destination Sønderjylland, Sønderborg Kommune, Fabrikant Mads Clausen Fonden, LAG Sønderborg-Aabenraa and Erhverv & Grøn Vækst – Sønderborg Kommune, LINAK-Fonden, all of whom have provided valuable support and financial backing.
